The opening of the Frost Festival was a great success last Saturday. Lots of people had got to the town centre to experience a skiing race, figure skating, snowmobiles etc.
The audience were given a chance to watch Lycksele's own figure skating talents, who performed on the ice quadrangle that had been flooded in the middle of the town square.
The skaters performed in bare shoulders and thin pantyhose and felt lucky that the temperatures were not far down into the minuses.
However, the two performers, Evelina Skeppström and Terese Nilsson, were happy to wind themselves up in warm sweaters after their show.
Another event was a drag race on veteran snowmobiles, and the petrol fumes were thick over central Lycksele.
- A veteran snowmobile is a challenge. You drive a veteran snowmobile - you ride a modern one. And you certainly spend a lot more time doing repair work than driving, says Magnus Wahlberg on his Ski-Doo 1964, which he had found in a woodshed.
